Whirlwind

Family & Friends:

Thank you all for your faithfulness in prayer and support the last few days. It meant so much to us to know that we had our prayer warriors lifting Kaelyn up and that God was in control of the situation.

On Friday around 12:30pm, Kaelyn suffered from a febrile seizure due to a sudden temperature spike. That morning, she had shown no signs of fever or her not feeling well. She played with friends at Prestonwood, but at lunch I noticed she was not eating so I thought she may have a stomach ache. On our way out to the car, I looked down to see Kaelyn's eyes were completely glassed over and were rolling back in her head. Her eyes were twitching and she was totally unresponsive. I called her name & patted her cheeks, but she was not there. I immediately panicked and we ran back into the church to call 911 and rushed her to the hospital. I rode with Kaelyn in the ambulance & thank God my friend Crystie was there to take care of Shae for me. I called Ryan and he met us at the hospital as soon as possible.

When we arrived at the hospital, her temperature was at 102 degrees. For the next 2 1/2 hours, Kaelyn was very lethargic, wasn't talking at all and was just laying on me totally disoriented. We were told that after a child suffers from a seizure, their body is completely exhausted and it's as if they just ran a marathon. They ran every test imaginable: CT Scan, X-ray of her chest to test for Pneumonia, checked her ears for possible infection, Urinalysis to test for a Urinary Track Infection, blood work, etc... All of the tests came back normal, except her blood work showed that her white blood cell count was high which meant some type of infection. Kaelyn finally started to come out of her lethargic state several hours later, but was still not back to our normal, always happy & talkative Kaelyn. They ran several IVs through her as the "cure all" antibiotics to cure any type of infection. Since she was coming out of the disoriented state, they were no longer worried about her having meningitis. We were told we could go home that evening, but had to return to visit our Pediatrician for further evaluation the following morning. They ran another IV through her before we left to help reduce her fever and we were released around 8:00pm.

The following morning, she woke up with a fever of 101 degrees. We gave her Motrin & wiped her down with cold washcloths to cool her body. We saw our Pediatrician and she got another shot of the fluids she received the day before to cover any infection and we were told that her fever should be reduced within a 24-hour period. She was still not feeling well for the rest of the day on Saturday and did not leave my side until the evening when she joined Shae in some play time. By yesterday evening, her temperature was normal, although we have to continue giving her Motrin & Tylenol every 6 hours to control her temperature. She has been feeling a lot better today (Sunday), but we are still keeping a close eye on her to prevent this from happening again.

This was an extremely scary situation for our family and we are so thankful that God took care of little Kaelyn. Shae did so well through all of this & missed her so much while she was away.

Thank you again for all of your prayers for Kaelyn & our family during this time, we appreciate all of you!

Hello! My name is Karen and I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I have been enjoying reading your blog for awhile now and seeing pics of your precious girls. I love reading about other families with multiples. I am so sorry for the scare you had with your little one. It is so frightening when babies get sick. I will be praying for a strong recovery for Kaelyn! I, too, am a mom of twins (2 yr. old boys). It is such an awesome privlige and honor to raise twins! Stop by my blog when you have time!

I am glad that Kaelyn is doing much better! I know that must have been one of the scariest moments in your life - when you as your child's advocate are totally helpless. You and Ryan handled the situation very gracefully, and I am so proud of you. Love you guys!
