Grandma Goolie is my Dad's mom and is such a sweet precious lady. She lives in far west Texas which makes it very hard to see her often. My dad has offered many times over the years to go pick her up & bring her to Houston/Dallas for special occasions, but she just does not like to leave her house so she always passes on the opportunities. It's usually been just my parents who drive out to see her. Since my sisters and I have all had young kids the past few years, it's made it hard to coordinate plans & make the long drive to see her.
I last saw her 7 years ago when my parents and I made the drive to my dad's high school reunion. I stayed with Goolie for 2 nights and she still talks about that weekend to this day. I made her chocolate chip cookies and popcorn & we watched girly movies like teenagers! She had a blast! I talk to her on the phone often & she always asked when I was coming to make her some more cookies!
With our kids all getting a little older and with Goolie approaching her 88th Birthday, we knew it was time to make the road trip to visit her! When she heard the news, she was thrilled!! My dad rented a 15 passenger van & my parents, 2 sisters & 5 kids under 5 loaded up to make the 7+ hour road trip!
The kids all did great on the drive & Kaelyn & Shae were completely entertained by their older cousins. We watched several Disney movies & stopped at many Dairy Queens along the way! It was such a wonderful time spent with Goolie & one weekend we will never forget. I made sure to make her a batch of chocolate chip cookies & some popcorn!
Goolie enjoyed meeting her 5 great-grandchildren & took time to love on each of them. We hope that this will be a road trip we can take again soon! We love you Goolie!
